Diplomate of American College of Veterinary Pathologists

Dr. Young is a 1988 graduate of Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. After four years of practicing small animal medicine in Southern California, Dr. Young completed a pathology residency and PhD program at Colorado State University and has since been a research pathologist supporting drug development at a large pharmaceutical company and contract research organizations.

While finishing up her graduate studies at CSU, Dr. Young fulfilled a lifetime dream of raising a puppy for an assistance dog program. After the rewarding experience of raising Golden Retriever Rosemary, who went on to graduate as a service dog from Canine Companions for Independence, Dr. Young has spent the last 20 years volunteering for a number of not-for-profit assistance dog programs across the country, participating in national meetings, and providing pro bono veterinary services to program dogs-in-training, brood stock, and working dogs. From volunteer puppy raiser, Dr. Young went on to become an assistance dog trainer and evaluator, and has helped support a number of client placements. Most recently, she has fulfilled another lifetime goal of purpose breeding retrievers with exceptional health and temperaments for assistance dog work, and is currently a program coordinator for the North America Assistance Dogs International Breeding Cooperative.

Dr. Young lives in Indiana and shares her home with retired Golden Retriever, Yuma, career changed German Shepherd Leader Dog Tacara, and two senior cats Tengo and Marti. Dr. Young enjoys escorting Yuma on her various therapy dog activities and gardening.
